- Lhasa Shoton Festival

Lhasa Shoton Festival is one of the
biggest festivals in Tibet. The main activities of this festival are"Buddha-Show",Tibetan
Opera Performance & "Linka"(Picnic). In the dawn, a lot of Lama of Trepung
Monastery spread out the giant "Thanka" of Buddha. When the "Thanka" is spread
out, the sun would be blazing through the morning mist whether the weather is
sunny or overcast, and shines at the gaint 'Thanka" of Buddha, which is called
¡°the combination of deities and mankind¡±. Then thousands of followers
hold their breath and feel the baptism of their hearts. Next, horns blare all
Lama read the scripture and pray, followers present Khada to the "Thanka", and
touch the "Thanka" by forehead to show devotion. Then people come to Norbulingka,
walk into own relatives¡¯ and friends¡¯ tents, and serve yak-butter
tea and highland barley wine each other. People would sing and dance throughout
the night. Shoton Festival is also called ¡°Buddha-Show Festival¡±or¡°Tibetan
Opera Festival¡±. We
would also make a trip to the sacred lake-Yamdrok Lake within the duration of
Lhasa Shoton Festival. One could realize the abstruseness of Tibetan culture by
the most famous palace and monastery in Tibet, make your heart soaked in this
peculiar holiday atmosphere, and appreciate the fascinating natural scenery of

Morning visit to the wonder of the world ¡ª Potala
Palace, afternoon guide tour to Jokhang Temple, Tibet Museum. |

(Fri) | Driving to Gyantse
via Yamdrok Lake ---one of the highlight in this tour, Yamdrok Lake is one of
the three holy lakes in Tibet. Visit Kumbuk Monastery ( ten thousand Buddha) overnight
in Gyantse Hotel tibetan style house. Gyantse is the most favourit city in Tibet
by foreignors, you will find the origial feature of the small Tibetan town, Driving
90km to the second largest city in Tibet ¡ª Shigatse, the seat of Panchen
Lama.

(Sat) | Visiting
the stunning Tashilunpo Monastery will definitely fascinate your imagination.
Driving back to Lhasa along the branch of Yarlungzangbo River, Tibetan family
visiting along the way.

(Sun) | Getting
up early in the morning to drive to Trupeng Monastery, occupy a good seat to watch
the Giant Buddha Show. Then guided tour in Trupeng Monastery. In the afternoon,
drive to Norbulingka (the Summer Palace of Dalai Lama) to picnic with the local
people! Watching Tibetan dance and fork performance! |

(Mon) | Transfer
to the airport to take flight to Shanghai or Chengdu. For clients who would like
to go back via Kathmandu, we suggest them stay one more day in Lhasa! |
