寺庙准时开门了，信徒们又是磕头上香，又是捐香油钱，我们是一心等日出。看庙的老头真势利，看我们没有租他棉大衣的意思，就不许我们再在客房里避风了。出家人也要讲经济效益啊！

吃过早餐，把行李带到协顺隆宾馆，安顿好就步行去火车站，这里有途经乔家大院的班车。但车上人不多，等了半个小时，车还没坐满，不知什么时候才能开出。干脆250元包了一台“面的”，一天之内把乔家大院、双林寺、王家大院都跑完。
9时多出发，上午参观了乔家大院，（门票35元），这是个照相的好地方，大红灯笼、照壁、垂花门、屏风都很有特色，只是人太多。中午回平遥汽车站附近的饭馆吃饭，考虑到王家大院比较晚才关门，决定先去双林寺，门票18元。这是一座历史悠久的佛寺，寺中的唐槐、宋碑、明钟、彩塑以及古代建筑都是稀世珍宝，其中尤以彩塑艺术闻名于世。我喜欢渡海观音衣带翻飞，充满动感的萧洒；更喜欢自在观音右腿高高搁起，神态俏皮不羁的样子；韦驼像高傲威武、栩栩如生，但个儿小了一点儿。可惜他们都被铁栏栅保护起来了，不许拍照。

晚上在南大街里转悠转悠，再次领略平遥城古建筑的特色。街两边的店铺都原汁原味地保留着明清时代的原貌，小店多是卖特产和工艺品的：如牛肉、黄酒、推光漆器、剪纸等。要是白天，街中央还会坐着戴瓜皮帽、圆墨镜、着唐装布鞋的三轮车夫呢，他们都是影托。
回到宾馆，发现客人都走了，整个院子里只有我们两个人住。在大红灯笼下，我们轻声细语，慢慢品尝刚买的西瓜，吃着又脆又甜、个儿小小的山西梨子（1元有2斤啦），真有一种远离凡尘、宁静平和的感觉。注意：那些山西小吃可不能乱吃，想到我们明天就要走了，就点了一个烤姥姥吃，那知道就是粉皮，一点味都没有，绝对不合广东人的口味。
2003年8月18日星期一天气：晴行程：平遥——临汾——吉县壶口瀑布住处：壶口瀑布边上的窑洞由于火车只售当天票，所以一早我们就坐人力三轮车到火车站。 7点10分到了车站，排队买了2463次普快，13元/人，7点52分开出到临汾的。 10点35分到了临汾，立即坐11路公车到尧庙汽车站，这是一个终点站。 1元钱坐了14个站，好像是坐专线车游市容一样。临汾是一个漂亮的城市，尧庙汽车站很有现代化的味道。一下11路车，买上一点干粮，就又上了到吉县的班车，时间紧凑得很。 4个小时后，到达吉县，马上有司机过来问我们是否去看黄河壶口瀑布的，80元他把我们拉到黄河边。说走就走，立即上车。 50里的山路，拐了367个弯。到了黄河边，司机介绍我们住到牛马王庙窑洞。
